Baker McKenzie advises YONEX on its acquisition of shares in Sunrise Sports India
Baker & McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) (“Baker McKenzie”) has advised YONEX CO., LTD. (“YONEX”) on its acquisition of shares in SUNRISE SPORTS (INDIA) PRIVATE LIMITED (“Sunrise Sports”), an Indian sporting goods distributor. Following the acquisition, YONEX will hold 50% of the voting rights in Sunrise Sports, which is expected to become an equity-method affiliate of YONEX.
YONEX has positioned the Indian market as one of its priority regions under its medium to long-term vision “Global Growth Strategy (GGS)”. Headquartered in New Delhi, Sunrise Sports has served as a distributor of YONEX products in India for many years. YONEX’s acquisition of shares in Sunrise Sports will further strengthen their partnership and enable YONEX to expand its business in the Indian market.
The Baker McKenzie team was led by Tokyo Corporate/M&A Partner Kiyoshi Endo, with support from Counsel Masao Tozaki, Senior Associate Moe Maekawa and Associate Kana Nomizo, as well as Tax Partner* Akihiro Kawasaki. The team also worked closely with local counsel on Indian law matters.
“We’re honored to have supported YONEX on this important transaction as it continues to expand its business in the Indian market,” Kiyoshi commented. “India offers significant growth opportunities, while cross-border transactions require careful consideration of local legal regimes and market practices. Baker McKenzie remains committed to leveraging one of our key strengths — our global network — to support the international growth strategies of Japanese companies.”
