The Japanese government has been discussing how AI should be regulated. Our IP Tech experts from the Baker McKenzie Tokyo office, Daisuke Tatsuno and Yuki Kondo, wrote an article on the AI Guidelines for Business which broadly apply to all individuals and entities who develop, provide and/or use AI for their business.

While the Guidelines are not binding laws, businesses should know what guidance and recommendations are provided in the Guidelines to take appropriate measures when developing, providing and using AI and to be ready for binding AI regulations which may be coming in the future.

Out of 10 common guiding principles listed in the Guidelines that businesses should work on, our article particularly focuses on the protection of privacy.
