Our Tokyo Projects Group has extensive experience advising Japanese sponsors acquiring interests in renewable energy projects and establishing new greenfield projects. We also advise international renewable power developers and investors in Japan on the acquisition and development of their projects, including the making of EPC and O&M arrangements.

Representative Experience

Wind

  • Advised a Japanese electric company regarding a wind power JI project in Poland.
  • Acted for a Japanese electric company in relation to a Chinese Wind Farm CDM ERPA.
  • Advised clients on share transfer agreements for several wind power projects.

Solar

  • Acted for a foreign energy company in the acquisition, development and sale of a 40 MW solar project in Aomori, Japan.
  • Acted for a foreign developer in the acquisition, development and financing of 24 MW and 7 MW solar projects in Fukushima, Japan.
  • Represented a Japanese trading company on its proposed acquisition of interests in concentrated solar power projects in Spain and the United States, including advice on project financing, special investment, tax incentives and other regulatory issues.
  • Acted for a Japanese solar cell producer in relation to the supply of a 53 MW photovoltaic power system to the largest solar power plant in Thailand.
  • Advised an international solar power company on the acquisition, development, sale and conclusion of EPC contracts for a 25.88 MW solar project in Iwate Prefecture.
  • Acted for a foreign solar projects developer on its acquisition of a 25 MW project in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

Others

  • Represented a Japanese electric company on its biomass power projects in Thailand and Malaysia.
  • Represented a Japanese electric company on its gas-fired independent and small power projects in Thailand.
  • Represented various EPC contractors and project developers on hydropower, biomass and other bio-fuel projects globally, including both acquisition and project finance work.
  • Acted for a developer on a PFI in relation to waste power generating facilities in Japan, including a clean energy project in Fukuoka and an RDF power generation project in Fukuyama.
