About
Our Intellectual Property Practice Group handles a wide array of matters related to patents, utility models, trademarks, trade secrets and copyright law, including investigations and opinions, registration application procedures, opposition petitions, and trials for cancellation and invalidation. We also frequently provide advice with respect to the administration and licensing of Japanese and foreign patents and have been involved in litigation before courts and customs authorities related to the infringement of various intellectual property rights.
Representative Experience
- Acted for an international healthcare company in the issuance of warning letters and in patent licensing negotiations.
- Advised a Japanese pharmaceutical corporation on its global restructuring and IP migration.
- Advised an international pharmaceutical and medical device company on its acquisition of intellectual property and other assets from a Japanese medical device company. The deal included a license back to the seller for ongoing manufacturing in Japan and an OEM arrangement for further development and manufacturing of the product outside Japan.
- Advised a European pharmaceutical company on negotiations and unfair competition litigation related to trademark issues involving a Japanese company.
