Baker & McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) advised AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center specialist, on the first Sustainable Linked Loan (SLL) financing for a data center in Japan, which is worth approximately AUD 650 million.

The SLL financing is for a major expansion of AirTrunk’s TOK1 data center in the Tokyo area.

In September 2022, AirTrunk became the first Japanese data center provider to sign a green loan agreement for AirTrunk’s second data center in Japan, TOK2, setting a number of sustainable finance benchmarks in the data center industry.

The Firm’s team was led by Seishi Ikeda, head of the Tokyo office’s Real Estate Group, with the support of team members Chizu Matsumaru, Keisuke Misuda, Katsuyuki Aoki and Satoshi Kazama.

Commenting on the deal, Seishi said: “We are honored to take part in AirTrunk’s third major data center financing project in Japan. AirTrunk is an industry leader in sustainable finance, which is subject to increasingly important ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, and we at Baker McKenzie are committed to doing the best we can to work with leading corporates like AirTrunk to build a better, more sustainable world together.”
