2016/06/24 Baker McKenzie opens BREXIT Hotline

The majority of UK voters have voted for a withdrawal from the European Union in the June 23 referendum. Concern is therefore growing about the possible impact that BREXIT could have on companies that do business in the UK.

In response, Baker McKenzie’s Tokyo office has opened a BREXIT Hotline.

2016/06/22 BREXIT: What It Means For Your Business

As the public opinion ahead of the June 23 referendum is too close to call on whether the UK should stay in the European Union, much uncertainty remains.

As set forth in Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which regulates the process of withdrawing from the EU, if the UK decides to leave, it needs to notify its intention and then negotiate the terms of departure within a two-year timetable. However, it is still unclear what kind of terms and conditions will be reached in the agreement, how the UK’s relationship with the EU will be structured in the future, and how long it will actually take to achieve these objectives.

In conjunction with our London office, Baker McKenzie has created a Brexit Working Group which is considering, together with our clients, the legal and commercial implications of the UK’s potential withdrawal from the EU. We are keen to engage with you about the possible impact that a Brexit could have on your business or sector. We have issued a report which analyzes the potential relationship models that can be established and a checklist which aims to outline the core questions any organization should consider.

We are pleased to introduce our Brexit website, with featured content, including:

  1. Post-Brexit Options Report – Risks and opportunities arising from each potential (Issued on March 2016)
  2. Post-Brexit Checklist – Core questions to understand whether or not a business will gain or lose if the UK withdraws (Issued on May 2016)
