Asia Pacific, 6 March 2017 – Baker McKenzie and its member firm have won three awards at the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Asia Awards held in Hong Kong on 2 March. The Firm was awarded “M&A Team of the Year” for its involvement in Foxconn’s takeover of Sharp, which also grabbed the “M&A Deal of the Year.” Malaysian member firm, Wong & Partners, took home the “National Law Firm of the Year.”

The Foxconn deal was the first acquisition by a foreign company of a major Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer, making it a landmark transaction that attracted huge interest in both Japan and overseas. Baker McKenzie was the lead transaction counsel to the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., also known as Foxconn Technology Group. The team was led by Partners Hiroshi Kondo and Yutaka Kimura in Tokyo, and Lindy Chern and Wen Yen Kang in Taipei, and supported by Associates Junya Suzuki in Tokyo and Fang-Yi Jen in Taipei.
