We are pleased to announce that on Monday, 3 December 2018, Baker McKenzie will be holding a seminar focusing on the development of offshore wind farms in Taiwan and the implications for offshore wind power development in Japan.

In Taiwan, 2 tender processes have been completed for offshore wind farm construction projects with a total capacity of 5.5GW. These projects have now moved on to the actual development stages. Our Baker McKenzie colleagues in Taipei are assisting developers with projects in six locations with a total capacity of approximately 2GW.

As was the case last year, we will be inviting three partners from the Taipei office involved in offshore wind power projects to share their views on the current status of offshore wind power in Taiwan, which we believe will have implications for the development of offshore wind power in Japan.

On 6 November 2018, the Abe Cabinet approved an amended bill for the Offshore Renewable Promotion Law which was sent to the House of Representatives the same day. The bill has been given high priority and is likely to pass the Diet this year.

Topics to be discussed, include:

  • Taiwan Offshore Wind Power Market Update and the PPA
  • The Administrative Contract (concession contract) and its required Localization Program
  • Taiwan Offshore Wind Project Finance
  • Japanese Offshore Renewable Promotion Law Update
