Data Protection / Privacy Seminar
The last 18 months have seen the introduction of major changes to privacy laws around the world.
At home, Japan has seen amendments to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information last year, and the establishment of the Personal Information Protection Commission this year.
The EU has seen the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation which will harmonize and strengthen the already powerful EU privacy laws, and such changes will have an impact on Japanese companies which handle personal data of EU data subjects.
In the USA, the Department of Commerce has launched the EU-US Privacy Shield Program to facilitate EU data transfers and transatlantic commerce. Also, California and other States in the USA have enacted numerous new data privacy laws, including on data security breach notification, data access by government agencies and consumer protection, some of which directly apply to companies in Japan.
In this seminar, we will hear not only from our own professionals, but from JIPDEC and Personal Information Protection Commission experts invited as guest speakers. Together we will provide an in-depth look into these major developments in Japan and the EU, as well as developments in Asia and the US.
